# article:author

Links an article to one or more author profiles. The value is a URL, and you can repeat the property for multiple authors.

## Code examples

Good example

```
<meta property="article:author" content="https://example.com/authors/john-doe">
```

Points to John Doe’s profile page.

Good example

```
<meta property="article:author" content="https://example.com/authors/jane-doe">
```

A second property like this can identify a coauthor.

Avoid this example

```
<meta property="article:author" content="John Doe">
```

A plain name is not a profile URL.

Avoid this example

```
<meta property="article:author" content="">
```

An empty value identifies no author.

## Recommendations

- 01 Link to a Profile Use the canonical URL of a page that describes the author. A name or social handle is not the profile object expected by Open Graph.
- 02 Repeat for Coauthors Add one article:author property per author. Keep each URL directly after the article metadata it belongs to.
